The Board of Aldermen is the legislative body of the City of Ansonia. Together with the approval of the Mayor, the Board exercises the full legislative powers of the City, enacts and amends ordinances, oversees City departments and finances, and represents the residents of each ward.

Special meetings may be called by the Mayor or by written request of a majority of aldermen. A majority of all elected members constitutes a quorum.

About the Board
As established in Section 11 of the City Charter, the Board of Aldermen holds broad legislative authority, including the power to:
- Enact, amend, and repeal City ordinances
- Manage, regulate, and control City finances and property
- Supervise and investigate all City departments, officers, and employees
- Oversee streets, highways, and bridges within the City
- Provide for public safety, health, and general welfare
- Elect a President of the Board at the start of each municipal year
- Confirm mayoral appointments by ballot
- Override a mayoral veto by a two-thirds affirmative vote
All votes, elections, and confirmations are conducted by ballot. The Board's full powers are detailed in Section 11 of the Ansonia City Charter.

The President of the Board of Aldermen is elected by the full Board at its first meeting of each municipal year. As established in the City Charter, the President presides over Board proceedings and, in the event of the death, resignation, removal, or disability of the Mayor, assumes the duties of the Mayor until the position is filled or the disability is removed.
In addition to his leadership role, Alderman Pergola continues to represent the residents of the 2nd Ward.
